Job Purpose:
To lead and supervise mechanical and electromechanical assembly operations for process equipment and automation systems related to solids handling. The role ensures accurate, high-quality, and timely assembly of machinery in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and project schedules.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Diploma or B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: 5–8 years of relevant experience in equipment or automation system assembly within solids handling or process industries.
Working Conditions:
Factory/shop-floor-based role.
Moderate physical involvement in mechanical assembly tasks.
Close coordination with Production, Design, QA/QC, and Electrical teams.
May require overtime during urgent dispatches or FAT schedules.
Experience Requirements:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Assembly
Plan and execute the assembly of equipment such as screw conveyors, bin activators, rotary valves, mixers, silos, pneumatic diverters, etc.
Review mechanical drawings, GA drawings, and assembly BOMs to ensure the correct sequence of operations.
Perform and supervise sub-assembly and full-system assembly including alignment, coupling, bearing housing installation, shaft fixing, and hardware tightening.
2. Automation & Pneumatics Integration
Supervise integration of pneumatic valves, actuators, sensors, solenoid coils, and air tubing systems.
Coordinate with the electrical team for motor installation, panel integration, PLC I/O wiring interface, and pre-FAT setup.
Ensure proper mounting, cable routing, and IP protection of instruments and field devices.
3. Team Supervision & Coordination
Lead and supervise a team of fitters, helpers, and technicians for daily assembly activities.
Allocate tasks, provide technical guidance, and monitor work progress.
Ensure safety compliance, discipline, and proper tool usage on the shop floor.
Coordinate with production, design, purchase, and quality departments for seamless execution.
4. Quality & Pre-Dispatch Readiness
Ensure assemblies meet dimensional tolerances, alignment standards, and clearance specifications.
Conduct dry run tests and pre-checks prior to QC and FAT inspections.
Verify proper fitment, aesthetics, and functional readiness before customer approval.
Attend internal and customer inspections and support punch-point closures.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain assembly log sheets, checklists, and daily activity reports.
Report shortages, discrepancies, or non-conformities to the Production Manager.
Support documentation for dispatch clearance and FAT documentation folders.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong hands-on expertise in mechanical assemblies, bearings, couplings, drives, and fittings.
Ability to interpret fabrication and assembly drawings along with BOMs.
Working knowledge of pneumatic circuits and instrumentation fittings.
Strong team leadership and problem-solving skills in mechanical assembly operations.
Awareness of industrial safety standards and best assembly practices.
